Addiction affects the entire family. Watching your loved one struggle with addiction might make you feel overwhelmed, confused, or even betrayed. You’re not alone in these feelings. Support groups can be a valuable source of help, understanding, and healing for families.

Why Join a Support Group?

Dealing with addiction in your family can feel isolating. You might think no one else could possibly understand what you’re going through. But support groups bring together people who have faced similar challenges, offering a safe place to share your experiences and find comfort.

Consider these benefits of joining.

  • Emotional validation: Hearing others’ stories helps you feel less isolated and gives you space to come to terms with complex emotions.
  • Practical coping strategies: Learn how to manage stress, set healthy boundaries, and deal with the ups and downs of loving someone with addiction.
  • A nonjudgmental space: Support groups are confidential and respectful. You can speak openly without fear of judgment.
  • Encouragement: Seeing how others have dealt with similar struggles can inspire hope and resilience.

Maryville’s Family Support Group

At Maryville Integrated Care, we know how important family support is to the healing process. That’s why we offer our interactive Family Education & Support Group, which is free and open to the public. We have designed this compassionate program to help you understand addiction, strengthen your family, and be a positive part of your loved one’s recovery.

Meetings take place at our Turnersville and Vineland locations, covering topics like these.

  • Addiction, recovery, and treatment options: Learn about addiction as a chronic brain disease and what recovery looks like.
  • Family dynamics and roles: Understand how addiction changes family relationships and ways to rebuild trust.
  • Enabling vs. support: Discover the difference between helping your loved one and unintentionally enabling their self-destructive behaviors.

Our group facilitator, Michael Girimont, BA, CADC, has over 25 years of experience working in addiction treatment and family education. Michael’s compassionate approach and deep knowledge make this group a welcoming and helpful space for families to heal.

You Don’t Have to Go Through This Alone

Supporting a loved one with addiction is challenging – but you don’t have to face it by yourself. At Maryville Integrated Care, we’re always here to help you. Contact us today to learn how to join our family support group and begin healing together.

Following 14 highly effective years at Maryville Integrated Care, CEO Kendria McWilliams announced her upcoming retirement, which will occur in September, 2025. Kendria has overseen significant growth during her time at Maryville, expanding to five physical locations serving all New Jersey counties, increasing the annual operating budget by $20 million, and building a full continuum of care. Under her leadership, the agency has transitioned from Maryville Addiction Treatment Center to Maryville Integrated Care, providing prevention, education, inpatient and outpatient substance use and mental health treatment, Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic integrated care, and recovery support services for over 9,000 people a year. During her tenure, Kendria has maintained focus on the ever-evolving needs of the community and has worked to meet those needs in real time.

Upon Kendria’s retirement, Jared Levy, Chief Operating Officer at Maryville, will assume the Chief Executive Officer role. Jared has been with Maryville for nine years and has 18 years’ experience in management and financial positions.

The Maryville Board of Trustees and staff are grateful for Kendria’s many contributions to Maryville and to the residents of New Jersey. We wish her well in her next chapter.

We are excited to announce that Maryville, formerly known as Maryville Addiction Treatment Center, will now be known as Maryville Integrated Care. While our new name, logo and messaging will represent our wider scope of services, we remain the same dependable non-profit agency restoring hope, health and healing for individuals and families.

What is integrated care? It’s an approach that treats the whole person, addressing multiple needs simultaneously. Integrated care is the coordination of medical, behavioral health, and social services to provide holistic care to individuals. At Maryville, we combine substance use treatment, mental health care, medical services, and support systems to provide a comprehensive approach for each individual we serve.

While we continue to lead in substance use disorder treatment, our new name reflects our commitment to addressing the broader issues that often accompany behavioral health challenges, ensuring a more complete and integrated response. Welcome to Maryville Integrated Care, where comprehensive care is our promise.

The New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (NJDMHAS) awarded Maryville a contract to double the capacity of our Contingency Management program. Contingency Management focuses on individuals with stimulant disorders, using the evidence-based practice of a reward system in conjunction with therapy to help clients achieve and sustain recovery. The program will now serve 200 clients annually through Maryville’s outpatient sites in Turnersville and Vineland.

New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (NJDMHAS) awarded a contract to Maryville for funding to hire a Nurse Care Manager, Case Manager, and Health Educator for both the Turnersville and Vineland outpatient/Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs). Clients will receive a medical assessment and/or screening and treatment for illnesses; vaccinations; linkages to other medical providers; and a variety of health measurements including but not limited to blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and much more. Clients will also receive case management services, health education, and personal health and well-being plans.

Maryville was awarded a New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (NJDMHAS) contract to provide medication and support services for individuals who reside or drop in at Joseph’s House, a Camden City homeless shelter. Through a combination of in-person and telehealth hours, prescribers will be available to increase access to low threshold medication. In addition to Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), clients will receive a history and a physical, assessment, care coordination services, and peer recovery supports, including linkage to supportive services.

Maryville was awarded Burlington County funding to help overdose victims connect to the treatment and supports they need to achieve recovery. Recovery Coaches will be working alongside Burlington County First Responders, remaining available 24/7 to respond to overdose calls and to provide six weeks of recovery coaching. This coaching will support individuals in building recovery capital, utilizing external (community services and supports) and internal (skill identification and development) resources.

Maryville was awarded a New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (NJDMHAS) funding to hire five additional peer recovery specialists at our residential programs. These peers will be assigned to the five inpatient levels of care – medically monitored detox and short-term treatment in Williamstown, and those two as well as long-term treatment in Pemberton. Peer recovery services are a vital component to a client’s treatment and recovery experience. Peers serve as a support system due to their own personal experience with recovery and their ability to relate to the clients. They also assess what client linkages need to be made in preparation for discharge and assist in putting those in place. This helps clients to begin building recovery capital, the internal and external resources that aid an individual in sustaining long-term recovery.
