POPULATION SERVED: Maryville Residential Services are provided to individuals (age 18+) who abuse or are dependent on alcohol and other drugs regardless of sexual orientation, race, or creed. There are specific tracks for adolescents in our outpatient facilities.

TREATMENT: Maryville believes strongly that abstinence is essential for long time recovery from substance use disorders. Since our founding in 1949, we have advocated to all our clients that the risk of experimentation with drugs and alcohol for those with substance use disorders is too dangerous to take. We have seen many people return to substance use only to pay a very high price, sometimes the ultimate price, for any experimentation or reuse of alcohol or drugs.
Our lectures and group counseling focus on several critical aspects that lead to long term recovery:

  • How to avoid taking the first drink or drug again
• How to avoid people, places and things that can trigger a    relapse
• How to take care of your needs: physical, mental, spiritual and    psychological
• How to resolve current problems with family, friends, employers    and the criminal justice system

We cannot advocate strongly enough that we recommend involvement with 12 Step programs, such as AA, NA, etc. We believe these 12 Step programs work best for most.

While advocating 12 Step Involvement, we also know that not all clients will accept this philosophy. We will work with each individual to develop a plan that will lead to lasting sobriety.

GROUP THERAPY is the primary modality of treatment used at Maryville. Group therapy is further reinforced with didactic lectures, educational curricula, and discussion and reading groups that focus on the three-fold nature of the disease: medical, emotional and spiritual. The Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings at Maryville expose the resident to a primary recovery aid, which will be essential to continued sobriety following residential treatment. Work therapy, in the form of housekeeping and maintenance chores, is assigned to each patient. The objective of work therapy is to provide the patient with a successful experience in community living, enhance their daily living skills and further reinforce the individual's positive self-image and sense of responsibility.

STAFFING PATTERNS: Our multi-disciplinary treatment team, consisting of an ASAM Certified Medical Director, registered nursing staff, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors, Certified Social Workers, Admissions Coordinator and administrators, meets daily to review new patients, discharges, any problem behavior and each patient at their one week and 2 week points. Treatment strategies and continued care plans are discussed. This meeting helps provide consistency for patients and allows each patient to benefit from the insights of the whole team.

SHORT TERM RESIDENTIAL REHABILITATION: (14-28 days) The Residential Program provides 24-hour observation, monitoring and treatment with counseling staff. The structured program offers daily group therapy and educational sessions, work therapy, on-site AA and NA meetings and individual counseling. Patients receive a physical exam, PPD and lab work and, if needed, a psych evaluation. HIV testing is also offered. Pre and Post HIV test counseling is provided by certified HIV/AIDS nurses. The Primary Counselor assigned to each patient also performs case management functions. Family services/education is offered to all family members.

LONGER TERM RESIDENTIAL REHABILITATION: (30-90 days) A Longer Term session may be available for patients whose problems are more severe or required as part of DUI offenses or other obligations.
